Video Recap: Savanna Hamilton 'Basketball & Beyond' Empowerment Community Kids Camp
Savanna Hamilton, in collaboration with Jump Thru Hoops, launched her inaugural two-day basketball camp in May at her alma mater, Toronto Metropolitan University - hosted in the very gym where she once competed as a scholarship athlete. More than 90 kids attended, with special appearances from Canadian women’s national team Olympians Kayla Alexander and Sami Hill, as well as former national team player Kim Gaucher.
The camp featured coaching from Canada Basketball National Team Assistant Coach Carly Clarke, supported by a staff of former professional and university players. Beyond skills development, participants took part in workshops on leadership and financial literacy, reinforcing growth both on and off the court.
Since that inaugural camp, Savanna and Jump Thru Hoops have expanded programming across Canada, prioritizing a safe, welcoming space for kids to learn the game - while placing special focus on supporting Indigenous communities. The organization hosted a camp in Victoria, British Columbia serving 60+ Indigenous girls, and another in Winnipeg with 60 Indigenous boys and girls, alongside a community camp in Toronto held at the University of Toronto. The initiative has also been featured on NBA TV Canada during SWISH: Inside the WNBA, amplifying its mission and impact.
